A resident has demanded the council pay for her car repairs after she hit a wooden post put outside her house without her knowledge.
Patricia McGinley has made an official complaint to Sutton council after it erected a two foot tall bollard yards from her drive on Kayemoor Road.
Mrs McGinley said that the positioning of the unwanted post means manoeuvring out of her drive is very difficult.
She said: "Today I accidentally hit the post coming out of my drive, unfortunately it didn’t fall over but it did cause significant damage to the passenger side of my vehicle, for which I hold your department responsible.
The post serves no useful purpose, neither my family nor my neighbours requested it and I expect the council to pay for repairs to my car."
A council spokesperson said: "When the highway inspector was carrying out his statutory inspection he noted a dip in the patch of land on Kayemoor Road that was - in his opinion - a possible hazard to pedestrians.
As a result he raised an order for repair which has led to this post being installed. It’s important to remember that this land is not for cars to drive on, so regardless of there being a post in place or not drivers should not be cutting across it.
"Residents have the right to request drop kerbs and any requests received will be evaluated on their merits. However, should it be successful a charge to the resident will be made to cover the work."
