A 21-year-old man has been charged after eight addresses in Croydon and one in Sutton were raided by police investigating courier frauds.

Six people were arrested last week on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud, following a series of courier frauds in Croydon, Sussex and Surrey this year.

The fraud works by the suspect telephoning the victim and claiming to be from an authority.

The fraudster tells the victim their bank account has been compromised and sends an accomplice, posing as a courier to pick up the victim's bank card from their home.

During the conversation the fraudster convinces the victim to reveal their PIN, and the cards are either used immediately or cash is withdrawn from their account.

Shaun Moore, of no fixed address, appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court last Friday charged with conspiracy to commit fraud.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on September 27.

Also arrested were four men and one women who have been bailed to return to police in early November.
