Dog owners are being urged to have their pets microchipped for free.
A microchipping event takes place at Rosehill Park, Sutton, on Friday, September 20, between 12noon - 3pm and it is supported by Sutton's Safer Parks police teams and police safer neighbourhood teams.
The microchipping is being carried out and funded by The Dogs Trust for free, whereas private veterinary clinics will typically charge between £20-£30.
Every dog owner in England will have to microchip their animal from 6 April 2016. Owners who fail to comply could face fines of up to £500.
Police in Sutton are heading up an initiative to promote responsible dog ownership called LEAD - Local Environmental on Dogs, which encourages responsible ownership amongst all breeds of dogs.
Partners include Sutton Council, Sutton Housing Partnership, registered social landlords, the Riverside Animal Centre and the RSPCA.
