A public consultation on 400 new homes propsed as part of the redevelopment of Taberner House is to take place later this month.
Croydon Council is in the process of leaving the 1960s Taberner House offices in The Queens Gardens for its new home, Bernard Weatherill House on Fell Road.
Croydon Council Urban Regeneration Vehicle (CCURV) a partnership between the council and John Laing, has been working on designs for the redevelopment of the vacated Taberner House.
CCURV propose to replace the block with a series of residential buildings, creating about 400 new homes in the town centre.
As part of a wider consultation programme including stakeholder engagement and online consultation, CCURV will be holding public drop in events in the Ashcroft Room at Fairfield Halls.
The first event will take place on Wednesday September 25, between 10am and 2pm and the second event will be on Thursday September 26, between 4pm and 8pm.
Members of the design team will be at the event to discuss proposals and gather feedback and a model will also be presented.
The proposals will be available in full online from September 26, and the public will also be able to provide feedback via a website dedicated to the redevelopment.
Tony Antoniou, Croydon Council's Director of Regeneration and Economy said: "With Taberner House soon to be vacated, a positive new use must be found for the site as it forms an important part of mid Croydon as recognised in our Mid Croydon Masterplan.
"The proposals meet our regeneration objectives of getting quality residential in to the centre to further revitalise the town. Along with the provision of much needed new homes the scheme will also involve improvements to, and sensitive enhancement of The Queen’s Gardens to encourage its vibrancy and long-term leisure use for all ages and backgrounds, another key priority within the Masterplan."
A detailed planning application will be prepared for submission later in the autumn.
