Owners of a Mercedes which was hit by a flying stepladder last week have offered to return it in exchange for a respray.

Shocked driver Sue Lynch, 57, was waiting at the lights by The Spring Tavern in London Road, Ewell, when a red lorry hurtled round the corner at about 7.45am last Monday.

A ladder came off the back and swiped the blue metallic car, which was left with scratches and a dent.

Mrs Lynch and her husband Gary, 55, contacted the Epsom Guardian in a bid to track the driver.

Mr Lynch, said: "Will the chap in the red lorry that went so fast around a corner in Ewell Village please come and pick up his step ladder that flew off the back of the truck and side swiped my wife's car.

"Oh and while you are there, please write out a cheque to pay for the respray." He added: "If they're missing a ladder, it would be nice if we could claim off their insurance otherwise we lose our no claims bonus."

He said the lorry came down Kingston Road and turned onto London Road then kept going.

He said: "Sue was quite shocked and very fed up because the vehicle did not stop. She was not concentrating on the lorry until something hit the car.

"First of all she thought she had been hit, but when she got out the step ladder was lying in the road."
