The increase in tram services from Wimbledon to Croydon as part of a £30m investment from TfL is welcome news for the thousands of commuters, residents and businesses in the area.
Now is the time for transport bosses and local authorities to start thinking creatively about how to fund future vital infrastructure projects, such as this one.
Sponsorship offers a big opportunity for TfL to shift costs from taxpayers and farepayers to interested businesses, and reduce our reliance on central Government funding.
If sponsorship is considered we can aim for bigger, more ambitious plans, as the era of readily signed big cheques from Government is over.
