A flower club in full bloom has celebrated its 45th anniversary.
The Epsom Garden Flower Club, which meets at Christ Church Hall, in Christchurch Road, Epsom, was created in 1968 as an offshoot of the Epsom Garden Society, to enable the subject to be taught locally.
The club continues to attract new members and has something for anyone interested in flowers, including arranging lessons, visits and demonstrations.
Members marked the milestone with a cake and bottle of bubbly donated by a member, which was followed by a flower demonstration by expert Kathryn Goddard, whose floral career has included providing flowers for stars of the silver screen and large corporations and teaching flower-arranging for those attending finishing school.
Audrey Simpson, the club’s chairman, said: "One of the appeals of our club is that we are one of the few clubs in the area to hold our meetings in the evenings which is appreciated particularly by working women.
"Whether people want to learn how to make the most of flowers, go on visits or simply come to watch a live demonstration, there is something for everyone."
Esther Barley, the club’s president and one of its founding members, said she is delighted that it "is still giving its members great pleasure".
She added: "Flowers enhance so many aspects of our lives and it is always enjoyable to relax among them".
