I want to say a very big thank you to the guys working at my local amenity site in Sutton because of my predicament.

I had chopped down three Leylandi trees in my back garden and accumulated a huge amount of waste as you can imagine.

I rang Sutton Council to ask if I could take this to the dump if I borrowed a friends box van.

They said: "Of course as long as the van doesn't have a gardening sign on" meaning it wasn't trade waste.

I had to take my council tax bill as proof I was a Sutton resident that was all.

On arrival I was told I could not tip it ,as there was too much waste!

I was told I had to go to Garth Road [Morden, in Merton] and pay.

I told them I was not told this by the council office and had borrowed the van only for a couple of hours and anyway I did not have any money with me.

The staff there went out of their way to try and help me involving asking a council officer at the site what they could do.

He just shrugged his shoulders; typical.

Luckily for me the supervisor decided he would try and help as he could see it wasn't my fault.

He said he would try to fit it into the container by squashing it down to fit.

Then the young lad there offered to help me unload it all even though he knew I couldn't give him a tip.

I left there with such a good feeling and impression of kindness and felt that I had to write a letter of appreciation.

The call centre staff should explain there is weight limit so I would have been taken my wallet and then I would not have felt so embarrassed.

So thanks again to the helpful staff at the site and suggest the council train the call centre staff a bit better.
