I was very disappointed to read the letter "Why is North Croydon being neglected?"

There is no question of North Croydon being ignored by this Conservative Council, unlike the previous Labour Council who took the area for granted.

In terms of street cleaning, highway maintenance and green spaces we deliver a consistent and high standard of service across the borough.

Additional repairs to highways to meet specific challenges are always dealt with on the basis of condition surveys and not on where they are in the borough.

Our 127 parks are well established and very popular throughout the borough - indeed we have invested significantly in Thornton Heath Recreation Ground, Norbury Park, and South Norwood Country Park as part of our Parks to be Proud Of initiative.

Our leisure centres in the north of the borough are also increasingly popular.

We recognise there are challenges.

Since taking office in 2006 we have faced an uphill struggle in turning around the decay of the previous Labour Council.

We have identified fly-tipping hot spots and our enforcement team are taking action to catch perpetrators and clear these areas up as part of a targeted campaign this year.

Over £4.65m of the Mayor's budget is being spent in West Croydon and the London Road area to secure lasting physical regeneration and to help traders.

In the summer we launched a new Enterprise Hub to provide practical advice and support for budding entrepreneurs in the local area and our officers are working with property owners to secure the regeneration of run down sites in the North of the borough to create new jobs and houses.

Far from ignoring North Croydon, Croydon Council takes it responsibilities in this area very seriously and we are keen to work with local communities and businesses to support the area.
