A pizza delivery man was bludgeoned with a hammer by two men in an attempted robbery.

Antony Bastampilli, 29, suffered severe head injuries while delivering to an address on Cressingham Grove, Sutton, on Tuesday, September 4, at 9.30pm.

After making his Domino’s Pizza delivery, Mr Bastampilli was on his way back to his scooter when two men approached him and demanded money.

Sources say as he had just received a card payment, and was not carrying any money, his attackers became angry and chased him down the street before assaulting him.

A witness, Chris Noble, 34, said: “I must have arrived just after.

“I saw a girl looking quite upset so I went to see if she was OK.

“She told me that two men had just ran past her with blood all over them screaming at her ‘did you see anything’.

“She looked shaken up.

“I walked down the road and saw a pool of blood, then saw the delivery man laying face down on the pavement.

“He was conscious but he did not seem able to move.”

Mr Bastampilli is currently recovering in hospital after having stitches in his head.

The suspects are described as white, aged early 20s, about 5ft 10in to 6ft and of average build.

A spokesman for Sutton police, said: “The man, aged 29, had just made a delivery to a regular customer.

“He was chased along Cressingham Grove and hit over the head with a blunt instrument near a white van.

“The suspects made off into the estate under the garages and into an alleyway leading to Brunswick Road.”
