The redevelopment of a pub car park has provoked outrage from neighbours concerned their privacy will be invaded.

Young's, who manage The Castle, in Tooting High Street, Tooting, plan to create a terrace at the back of the venue.

A new kitchen and burger shack, alfresco dining area and seating booths will also be built in the car park.

But home-owners whose properties overlook the beer garden have raised concerns over the potential increase in noise and litter.

Wandsworth Council gave their approval for the development on July 3, despite receiving 30 objections from people living the area.

Campaigners are now hoping the council will listen to their objections regarding the licensing application for the new beer garden and oppose its extended opening hours.

Sam Adams, of Graveney Road, Tooting, said: "If a license is granted for use of the garden, there will be significantly more noise and food smells emanating from the area behind The Castle.

"This will be felt particularly during the evenings as the licence would permit drinking, music, and other sources of unpleasant noise late into the evening, and would cause considerable disturbance beyond just the houses such as ours that are very close by."

Mr Adams, alongside a group of neighbours, have been door-knocking to raise awareness of the issue and encouraging people to lodge their comments.

Wandsworth Council's licensing committee will make a final decision on September 17.
