Three of the four London Rowing Club members in action at the World Rowing Championships in South Korea this week made it safely through their heats.

Imogen Walsh and Bill Lucas progressed to the semi-finals in the lightweight women's double scull and men's double scull, while Mark Aldred is in to the final in the lightweight men's pair.

There was disappointment for Jessica Eddie and the women's eight though, who came third in their heat and therefore went into Wednesday's repêchage for a chance to line up in Sunday's final.

Lucas' performance, in a boat with Matt Langridge, was one of the most impressive as the pair beat event favourites New Zealand in their heat to qualify for the semi-finals on Friday.

"We expected the Kiwis to be there but we like to do our own thing and are happy to get a good race in," said Lucas after leading the Kiwis from start to finish.

Walsh and Kathryn Twyman put down a marker in the lightweight women's double scull by coming through toward the end of their race to win their heat in seven minutes, 7.23 seconds. Their semi-final is on Thursday and final on Saturday.

Putney-based Aldred is partnered with Sam Scrimgeour in the lightweight men's pair and, having exchanged the lead several times with Italy, they were beaten into second place on the line but qualified for the final on Friday.
