Fire engines have been temporarily removed from stations to prepare for firefighters potentially striking.
The London Fire Brigade removed appliances from Wandsworth Fire Station and Clapham Fire Station on Thursday.
A total of 27 fire engines have been removed across the capital after the firefighters union decided to ballot on striking over a pension dispute.
The FBU may stroke on September 5 following Government reforms to the firefighters' pension scheme, with the ballot set to close on August 29.
All of the removed fire engines come from two appliance stations in order to allow firefighters to respond to emergency incidents.
They will be deployed across London and used to provide fire cover for the capital.
Ron Dobson, fire commissioner, said: "This dispute is between the FBU and Government, but as the national strike may involve London, we have a legal responsibility to prepare for the possibility of strike action in September.
"This is not a decision I have taken lightly and I am not presuming the ballot will result in a yes vote, but I need to ensure contingency plans are in place, which is why I’ve arranged for the temporary removal of 27 fire engines."
