The GB Rowing Team has been announced for the World Championships in Chungju, South Korea with a strong contingent of rowers from Molesey Boat Club and the London Rowing Club.

Molesey’s duo of Andrew Triggs Hodge and Moe Sbihi will be joined in the men’s eight boat by club-mate George Nash.

Molesey’s Ruth Walczak continues in the lightweight women’s single scull and hopes her three fourth-place finishes at the World Cup events will put her in a good position to challenge for a medal this time around.

There is, however, frustration for Molesey’s James Foad as he is yet to book his place in the squad.

Foad is currently listed among four rowers still under consideration for the pairs boat, and he will not find out until after this weekend’s trial racing if he has made the cut to fly out on Thursday.

Mark Aldred of the London Rowing Club, a gold medalist from both the Eton Dorney and Lucerne World Cup regattas, continues in the men’s lightweight pair and has high hopes for another gold medal.

And Imogen Walsh, also of the London Rowing Club, also continues in the lightweight women’s pair.

Walsh suffered frustration in Lucerne as she failed to pick up a medal after her bronze and silver performances in Sydney and Eton Dorney respectively.

The World Championships is the final and most prestigious rowing event of the year, and although this is the first year of the Rio Olympiad performance director Sir David Tanner has entered a full selection of 14 Olympic class boats and two Paralympic boats.

Tanner said: “We’ve got a good base in the first year of the Olympiad and there is three more to go.

"In terms of medals, I’m being a bit coy on our targets but we’d hope for three to five as the minimum. This is a good challenge for the rowers.”

This year’s event heads to Korea for the first time and will take place between August 25 and September 1.
