A father is campaigning for public toilets to be installed by a busy tube station.

Rex Wickham, 41, of Battersea, has launched a petition calling on Lambeth Council to build toilets close to Clapham Common tube station.

The father of three said his family regularly get caught short when they spend the day at the children's paddling pool in the common.

Lambeth Council closed the only public toilets in the common five years ago to make way for a café, with no replacements built.

The nearest toilets are in The Windmill Pub.

Mr Wickham works in Bromells Road, Clapham, and said men and women regularly use the car park to urinate.

He said: "There is the paddling pool where my kids go in hot weather and they are splashing about, after a few hours of that there is the need to spend a penny.

"Men and women use the car park of the office property, it is disgusting, but there is no where to go."

Councillor Imogen Walker, cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: "It is really important that residents and visitors have access to public toilets in Lambeth.

That is why we run a Community Toilet Scheme which sees restaurants, bars and shops work together with the council to provide more clean, safe and accessible toilets for the public.

There are seven toilets in Clapham which the public can use thanks to the Community Toilet Scheme."
