Firefighters tackled flames at East Croydon rail station this morning.
The fire broke out at around 1.30am after sparks caused by a rail-grinding train passing through the station ignited litter that had blown under a platform.
One crew from Croydon fire station put out the smouldering litter using fire extinguishers. They were at East Croydon station for around an hour.
No trains were disrupted.
Rail-grinding trains are used to remove smoothe worn tracks.
