An artist who spent many a day painting the delights of Kingston Market Place will have his work exhibited in the Sunday Times Watercolour Exhibition this year.

Thames Ditton man John Walsom, 57, who works from his Kingston studio in Fife Road, is among 79 artists chosen to showcase their artworks at the central London Mall galleries in September.

The yearly exhibition, which shows off expertise in watercolour, will be judged by an art-savvy panel as part of a competition.

Prize money of £10,000 for the winner will be up for grabs, with the runner up set to receive £6,000.

Mr Walsom said: “I am very pleased about the exhibition. There are an enormous amount of submissions so it’s quite nice to get a bit of recognition.”

Nearly 800 submissions were made before 83 artworks were chosen for the competition and exhibition which will run from September 16 to September 21.
