Croydon's James Dasaolu will look to continue his remarkable rise up the world rankings by challenging for a medal at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow this weekend.

The 25-year-old Croydon Harrier burst on to the world stage this year, winning 60m silver in the European Indoor Championships in January and clocking 9.91 seconds for the 100m at the British Championships last month.

He has not raced since setting that huge personal best, his previous fastest time was 10.03, in Birmingham four weeks ago - pulling out of a showdown with Usain Bolt at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games two weeks ago with a slight hip flexor strain.

He goes into the championships as the fourth fastest man in the field this year behind Bolt (9.85), Nesta Carter (9.87) and Justin Gatlin (9.89).

The 100m preliminaries are at 7.10am UK time on Saturday, with the heats at 5.15pm on the same day. The semi-finals will be on Sunday at 4.05pm with the final at 6.50pm.

His fellow Harrier Martyn Rooney missed out on 400m selection because of injury but was named in the 400m relay team. The heats for that take place at 4.05pm next Thursday with the final on Friday at 6.30pm.

Croydon resident James Ellington goes in the 200m, which begins next Friday with the heats at 7.35am and semi-finals at 4.40pm. The final is next Saturday at 5.05pm.
