Woodside fire fighters helped a two-year-old from choking after it is believed her tracheotomy tube became dislodged.

Fire fighters rushed to help the girl who was at a fairground in Ashburton Park when a woman came knocking at their door to ask for help at 7.15pm yesterday.

Watch manager Nicola Jaques said: “We got a bang on the front station door. There was a woman in distress saying a two-year-old was not breathing. We ran across the park and found the girl where it seemed her tracheotomy had come loose.

“We rendered first aid and helped to clam people down. The ambulance was there very quickly and took over from there.

“They said whoever had put the girl on her side to help her breathing had done a brilliant job.

“There was quite a few people who were helping who were brilliant. It was great that so many people from the community had tried to help.”

The girl was taken to hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.
