Can you capture the essence of Croydon in one photograph?

Photographers are being offered the chance to enter the town's new Culture Click competition and have their work viewed by thousands of people.

Mayor of Croydon Councillor Yvette Hopley, has teamed up with Croydon Commitment, the town's corporate social responsibility charity, to offer photographers the opportunity to submit their work to a sponsored calendar.

The photographic competition aims to promote Croydon's diversity as well as raising money and awareness for the Mayor's charities- British Heart Foundation and the South East Cancer Help Centre.

Fourteen winning entries will be included in the 2014 Croydon Charity Calendar which will go on sale in October for £5.

The five best pieces will be displayed in Bernard Weatherill House and there will be an exhibition of all the finalists' work in the town centre.

Coun Hopley said: "We hope to encourage as many local people as possible to take part in Croydon’s Culture Click so that this year’s calendar captures the essence and vibrancy of our town.

"Everyone taking part in this competition will be playing their part in supporting two causes close to my heart when funds are raised through the sale of the 2014 calendars."

Photographs will be judged on whether they capture the vibrancy of Croydon’s culture, transport people to the heart of the place and show passion for the town.

You should try to make it something iconic to Croydon, perhaps with a twist such as focussing on everyday people, personality, a sense of place or a moment in time.

Quality is as important as content. Judges will be looking for images that are bold, striking and unique.

All entries should be submitted with your name, age, email address, contact number and a caption to give the picture context and some insight into the story behind the photograph.

There are several ways to enter the competition. Images can be emailed as a JPEG, between 1MB and 3MB and a minimum of 300DPI, to the.mayor@croydon.gov.uk or submitted via Facebook at facebook.com/MayorOfCroydon or via Twitter using @MayorOfCroydon

Entries can also be sent by post to The Mayor, Mayor’s Parlour, Town Hall, Katharine Street, Croydon, CR9 1XW.

The deadline for submissions is September, 20 2013. For full terms and conditions visit:
