A Wimbledon woman will reach new heights when she climbs Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for a charity that encourages responsible gambling.

Rebecca Harris, a marketing executive for gaming show ICE Totally Gaming, will join 27 other intrepid adventurers in October who will trek through four climatic zones.

The group will first take on the lush, green, humid rainforest before entering into the low alpine region with its heath and moorland and fresher climate.

They will then encounter the brown, dusty, dry alpine desert that offers little shelter from the elements and where night temperatures plummet to freezing.

In a 30 hour period on days five and six they will then trek for up to 22 hours, with 1,615m of ascent and 2,200m of decent.

If they are successful, they will have reached Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the roof of Africa.

The Responsible Gambling Trust aims to raise over £50,000 from its Kilimanjaro Challenge to help minimise gambling-related harm in Britain.

Miss Harris said: "Since working across the Gaming portfolio, I have learnt about the good work that the Responsible Gambling Trust does and now know what a worthy cause it is.

"If I reach my fundraising target and the summit of Kilimanjaro it will be a great personal achievement."
