Former Olympians Mark Lewis Francis MBE and Tony Jarrett joined young sprinters for a street athletics event.

Peterborough Road in St Helier was closed for the day to allow youths aged between 4-20 years to compete against each other in 60 metre sprint races.

One of the winners in the under 13’s age category Zachary Buckley, from Carshalton, will now be going forward to take part in the National Final being held in Manchester on August 31.

Lynne Mitchell, community development manager at Sutton Housing Partnership said: "Street Athletics is really effective way of involving young people who may not be engaged in mainstream sports and who can benefit from the confidence and motivation that comes from taking part in a positive community sports event.

We would like to thank local residents for giving us the opportunity to run this really worthwhile event on their street for the day."

Street Athletics is a series of community focused events throughout the UK run by Nuff Respect, and was funded and supported by Sutton Housing Partnership, Mulalley, Lakehouse and Sport for Social Change Network.
