As I write this, I feel like I’ve lived a full day already.

I was up at six while the little ones slept peacefully, being a busy bee getting all the chores done without distraction.

I emptied the dishwasher, put a load of washing on, decided what we were having for lunch and set out breakfast. How things have changed.

These days I grapple for every spare millisecond the day offers me while at the same time hear my husband constantly tell me to relax when there are things to be done.

I have to admit I’ve always liked being on the go, but this week I’ve wondered what on earth I did with my time before I had children.

I had to ask Michael and we reminisced and had a laugh about “the good old days”.

We used to have lie-ins on weekends, go for lovely meals in London, meet with friends and sometimes stay out till 5am simply because we could.

We could even plan holidays and know we could lie on a beach all day. We calculated we haven’t had a holiday in over two years and the next one we go on will have to be family-orientated.

The fact is life happens in stages. You learn to discover yourself, and then enjoy being single and a little hedonistic, settle down with your soul mate then have a family with a few twists and turns along the way.

And here I am now; typing with a baby tied to me, my son running around with a couple of breadsticks and hearing the washing machine rattling because it has been overused.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change it for the world – especially as later I’ve a slice of banana bread to look forward to when it’s all quiet again. And yes, I made it early this morning!
