Discover Ewell’s hidden past, hear stories of a Tudor royal palace and learn about those buried in an Epsom cemetery on a series of walks this summer.

Bourne Hall Museum’s guided walks delve into the history behind the villages of Ewell and Stamford and the beautiful landscapes at Nonsuch Park and Epsom Common.

Museum assistant David Brooks, who leads the walks, says: "It’s for people to learn about the history of Epsom and Ewell in story form rather than through facts and figures."

On August 13, the Nonsuch Park and Palace Walk will give walkers the chance to visit the spot where the original palace built by Henry VIII once stood and hear stories from the time.

The next day, the Hidden Ewell Walk will go through Ewell Village. Learn about a Saxon cemetery, tread in the footsteps of Romans on Stane Street and relive the terror of exploding gunpowder mills.

On August 21, there is the chance to explore the village of Stamford and Epsom Common as well visiting the medieval landscape of Horton.

And there is a gentle stroll to visit the final resting places of lords, ladies and townsfolk at Ashley Road Cemetery on August 27.

The last walk in the series, the Horrible Ewell Walk, will take place the next day.

Walks start at 2pm and cost £4 per walker.

Places must be pre-booked with David Brooks. Call 0208 394 1734 or email dbrooks@epsom-ewell.gov.uk.
