An intrepid swimmer is getting ready to swim round Jersey in aid of charity Prostrate Cancer UK.
Mick Helps, an endurance athlete from Stoneleigh, has just completed his six-hour qualification swim to enable him to take on the challenging 40-mile swim in mid-August weather permitting.
Mr Helps said: "I'm glad to get the cold water qualification swim out of the way. It means I can concentrate on preparing mentally to get round.
"This is one of the top swims there is and I really hope the sea conditions will allow the event to go ahead."
Just 82 swimmers have completed the solo challenge - far fewer than have swum the Channel or the more than 3,000 who have now climbed Everest.
