Norse mythology was brought back to life when a Viking play boat opened a new beach on Twickenham riverside.
Children armed with buckets and spades headed to the play beach to enjoy a range of activities put on for the official opening at Champions Wharf on Thursday, August 1.
The past two summers have seen families enjoy the riverside beach, which Richmond Council has now allowed to become a year-round feature.
The permanent beach has been improved with the Viking play boat, a Victorian water taxi, new seating and an awning for shade.
Richmond’s cabinet member for environment and planning, Councillor Virginia Morris, said: “The play beach has brought so much joy to the children and young people of Richmond and it is a delight to make it a permanent feature at Champions Wharf.
“Beach fun will be available all year round which will be thrilling for children and families who we know are disappointed when the beach is removed at the end of the summer.
“The weather could not be better for the play beach and we are delighted with the support residents have shown for our plans.”
