Police broke into a car yesterday after an over-heated dog was spotted trapped inside.

A brown labrador was stuck inside the car parked near Marble Hill Park in Twickenham at around 7pm.

Strawberry Hill resident Louise Rees stopped to help when she spotted the police trying to coax the dog out the car as she walked past.

She said: “He looked so withdrawn at the back. He looked fit and well-kept but it’s the fact he would have been in the car for such a long time.

“He had a tiny bowl of water in there and some windows were open, but to do that, it makes you shiver.

“The police were ever so good, they were considerate and really did a good job – very caring.”

The RSPCA also attended and spoke to the police and the owner.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “The RSPCA was made aware by the police of the incident involving a dog in a hot car near Marble Hill Park.

“An RSPCA inspector offered advice on how best to cool down the dog and also to the owner on avoiding leaving their dog in a car during the hot weather.

“The police are now handling the matter.”

Police are yet to comment.
