The mayor of Sutton is to write to Buckingham Palace to pass on the borough's congratulations on the birth of the royal baby.
Sutton's mayor Councillor Sean Brennan announced at the end of last night's council meeting he would be writing to the palace to express congratulations on the council's behalf.
News of the baby boy's arrival was broken to councillors mid-way through last night's meeting by Coun Tony Shields who broke away from a speech on a different matter to announce the birth.
Councillor Peter Geiringer suggested a motion be moved to offer Sutton Council's formal congratulations but there was not time to debate and pass the motion.
Coun Brennan said he would write to Buckingham Palace instead.
