A proud red-head mum is taking a stand against the bullies tormenting her children for their ginger hair.

Bobbie, 8, and Breeze, 7, from Carshalton, are just like any other children except when they visit the park they face a torrent of abuse just because of their fiery locks.

Now their mum Rachel Plaistow, 43, has had enough and she wants to raise awareness that ginger kids are cool.

Mrs Plaistow said the name calling, including "carrot head" and "ginger nut", happens on a daily basis.

She said: "It is affecting my children now and I want to raise awareness and make people aware that this is going on and people need to stop.

"My children are proud of their ginger hair. My kids go into parks and [the children] say ‘you’re not playing because you're ginger'.

"Even when they walk up to the sweet shop and stuff they say ‘there goes the gingers’.

"You know what it doesn’t matter what colour your hair is.

"My children are red heads but they are normal people. Don’t judge my children by their hair colour.

"People need to be aware and to stop being nasty. Why can’t people be equal?

"I just want to raise awareness that ginger kids are cool."

Mrs Plaistow tells Bobbie and Breeze to take no notice of the bullying and has spoken to other mums about the name calling as well as their school Green Wrythe Primary School where she said teachers dealt with it appropriately.

Approximately one in ten people in the UK has ginger hair – which is one of the highest redhead rates in the world.

However, despite celebrities including Ed Sheeran, Lily Cole and Prince Harry flying the flag for red heads the prejudice of ginger hair still persists.

Last year Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall even took to Twitter labelling ginger tormenters as "bigots".
