Comedian Lucy Porter is returning to the stage after a two-year break and will be taking her tour to Teddington’s Landmark Arts Centre this month.

Returning to stand-up after two pregnancies, Porter’s new act was warmly received at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, but she says coming up with a new show has been a challenge.

Now on tour with her one-woman show People Person, she will stop in Teddington on May 23.

She says: “I’m trying not to talk about kids too much, because when people have to deal with their own children all day, they don’t want to see a comedian banging on about it.

“So now in my show, people with children will be able to relate to it and people without children will feel they have made a very good decision.”

People Person is largely about friendship, she says, and how she met her best friend.

She says: “But it’s also about daytime TV, and Argos product reviews.”

Porter missed the stage, but was also nervous about going back. About her return to the Edinburgh Fringe, she says: “I was really jittery, my hands shaking.”

But with a long history of appearing at the festival and a love for live stand-up, she soon felt in her element.

She says: “By the time I was starting again, I was really ready for it. Like a boxer returning to the ring. I’m a natural show-off, so it’s nice to explore that side of my personality again.”

She adds that it will not be all over when her tour finishes in late June. “I have a sitcom and a sketch show in development, and I want to write a book I’ve been trying to write for the past 10 years,” she says.
