A bestselling author has teamed up with a lecturer at Epsom’s University for the Creative Arts (UCA) to bring his latest stories to life.

Comedian and Fast Show actor Charlie Higson asked graphic design lecturer Mike Nicholson to create an illustrated map to accompany his young adult’s adventure series, The Enemy.

The intricate map enables readers to chart the characters’ journeys through the post-apocalyptic London featured in the novels.

Mr Nicholson, a storyboard artist on numerous hit UK comedies including The League of Gentlemen and the Ali G Indahouse movie, previously worked with Higson on the television series Reeves and Mortimer’s Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased).

Higson said: "The storylines over the seven books in the series are quite complex and the geography of London is not familiar to everyone - even people who live there - so I wanted a designer who had a clear, precise style.

"Mike fitted the bill perfectly.  I knew he would bring a strong graphic sense to the map and make it both very clear and also a lovely thing to look at."

Mr Richardson added: "This was the single most complicated illustration job I have ever undertaken in 27 years of professional work - having to start from scratch, creating a single piece that captures events across a fantasy version of modern London from over 1500 pages of text was quite a task."
