Ten suspected football hooligans were arrested on Saturday as part of a crackdown on football related violence.

The investigation was launched after a fight broke out between Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion fans on Saturday 10 November, following separate football matches earlier that day.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Public Order Investigations Team carried out six arrests at around 5am at addresses across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Four of the men, aged between 21 and 41, were arrested in Sussex, the other two men aged 21 and 28 were arrested in south London.

A further two men were then arrested in the Croydon area. All eight men were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes, from the Specialist Crime and Operations Directorate, said: "These people are not genuine football fans, they are hooligans who went to Kings Cross looking to engage in violence that day.

"We share a firm commitment to tackle and eradicate football hooliganism and will seek football banning orders where appropriate.”

Anyone with information about individuals who take part in football violence should contact police on 101.
