Elderly and disabled residents were given a helping hand with their Christmas shopping this week thanks to a free transport service.
Merton Council’s transport services team and volunteers took residents to Centre Court shopping centre in Wimbledon on Sunday, November 21.
Volunteer Centre Merton also organised the event and recruited 30 young volunteers from the Ursuline and Ricards Lodge schools to accompany the residents.
Councillor Linda Kirby, cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “Living in a supportive community is always important, but even more so at Christmas, and I’m glad to see people volunteering to help out on these trips, which have proven to be great fun for everyone involved.”
