A gritter Twitter service has been set up by Surrey County Council to help motorists plan their journeys during snow and ice this year.
The social networking feed, @surreytravel, provides updates on gritting activity, weather conditions, road closures and traffic information.
John Furey, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “Most people are tucked up in bed when our fleet of gritting lorries are out making Surrey’s roads as safe as possible.
“By tweeting about where the gritters have been and when, we can help people plan their journeys and avoid some of inevitable disruption caused by severe winter weather.”
Surrey County Council and contractor May Gurney have been planning for months to keep Surrey moving during ice and snow.
