The speedboat that David Beckham piloted down the Thames during the Olympic opening ceremony will go under the hammer at Mercedes-Benz World.

The powerful 2008 Bladerunner that powered the Olympic flame on the final leg of its incredible journey to the Olympic Park is expected to bring in about £250,000 at the Bonhams sale in Weybridge on Monday, December 3.

The heavily customised boat is fitted with four dummy rockets with smoke canisters, a high-pressure waterjet bar and dozens of LED lights.

The Bladerunner joins a Hawker Hurricane aircraft, estimated at £1.4m to £1.7m, a 1938 Jaguar SS1000, estimated between £200,000 to £250,000 and a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, estimated at £250,000 to £300,000.

Tim Schofield, director of the Bonhams UK motor car department, said: “After a fantastic summer of British sporting success, Bonhams is proud to offer for sale the ultimate souvenir from the Olympic opening ceremony – what has been dubbed ‘the greatest show on earth’.”
