The Rt Hon Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, will officially open the new expanded facilities at The Power Assessment and Training Centre on Friday 28 September 2012.

The Power Assessment & Training Centre, a partnership between Carshalton and Kingston Colleges, provides industry responsive Gas, Plumbing, Electrical, Construction and Renewable Energy courses, ensuring that employers across the Building Services, Construction and Low Carbon energy sectors have the skills required to increase productivity and take advantage of emerging business opportunities.

The decision to expand the existing Power Centre has been driven by the need to deliver a range of low carbon skills training for installers looking to up-skill and meet competence requirements linked to the Green Deal, Feed-in-tariffs and Renewable Heat Incentive. All programmes are fully accredited and deliver standards aligned to MCS and Gr een Deal Accreditation schemes (PAS 2030:2012 standard).

Based in Carshalton, The Power Centre has invested in state-of-the-art equipment from a range of leading manufacturers including rainwater harvesting systems, biomass boilers for domestic and commercial heat production, air and ground source heat pumps and a range of Solar PV and Solar Thermal rigs. The new centre also allows for provision of commercial gas training and assessment and provides a dedicated resource for CSCS assessment.

Vince Glover, Director of the Power Centre says, ‘The new facilities at the Power Centre will allow for a greater focus on the green skills that the building services engineering and construction sectors will require in order to take advantage of government policy and associated incentivisation around renewable energy and energy efficiency. We are excited with our new provision for 2012/13 and believe employers will see the benefits of up-skilling in these areas to widen their portfolio of services and meet increased client demand for low carbon solutions.

2013 promises to be another massive year in the transition to a low carbon economy and the Power Centre will be leading the way in delivering training for environmental technologies. We are delighted that the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Edward Davey will be opening our new facilities and officially launching the centre as lead hub within the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies. This visit will also provide the opportunity to discuss Government support for our low carbon skills programmes, delivering vital skills for installers looking to take advantage of the Green Deal'

The National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies is a national network of employer-driven, high quality training providers that together deliver a range of environmental technology courses, based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). The Academy is driving up the number of people skilled and competent to implement the Government’s vision for a low carbon future. As a Lead Hub within the NSA network, The Power Centre is leading a transformation in the way the UK plans, develops and delivers skills in renewable and environmental technologies.
