More than 120 events, spread over more than a month – the Caterham Festival is set to be bigger and better than ever.

Incorporating everything from Rhyme Time activities at the library to exclusive talks from insiders from the Royal Ballet company, the fourth annual festival aims to cater for every taste.

Andy Parr, chairman of the festival committee, made up entirely of volunteers, is confident visitors will not be disappointed.

He says: “We try to spread the events to offer different attractions, but also across the whole area. We estimate that last year the footfall for the festival was 24,000 – not bad for a town with a population of around 20,000.”

Opening the festival will be DeFest, a two-day music event including Rock’n’Roll, opera, swing and jive music, beginning Saturday, May 26. Festival highlights include the diamond jubilee giant picnic on June 3 at Town End Recreation Ground, followed by a huge all-day street party in the high street.

The following week Caterham Carnival will take centre stage, with the procession winding from the Valley through to Westway on June 9, followed on June 10 by a food festival featuring international and local produce.

The fun finally comes to an end on the weekend of June 30 and July 1 – a summer party will be held throughout Saturday in the town centre, followed by a choice of choral music at Woldingham Village Hall, live theatre Lilies on the Land at the Miller Centre or a night of Dub Step at the Arc.
