Amateur dramatics group The Magdalene Players are putting on a play penned by its own members for the first time in its 30 year history.

Constituent Parts is set in an errant MP's constituency office on election day.

Rt Honourable Norman Smythe believes he will have no problem retaining his safe seat, but little does he know he is about to experience his ultimate day from hell.

Mistresses, mothers and mayhem ensure, with the politician having to confront one disaster after another in his ward.

The farce is the brainchild of David Ashton and Daniel Hewitt, whose pantomimes have already been performed by the players.

The audience will have the chance to see a world premier.

Players have said taking the script from the page to the stage has been a delight.

Director Michelle Rea said: "We hit the ground running with rehearsals and I am delighted with the wonderful cast and crew we have drawn together.

"The atmosphere is superb and everyone has been bowled over by the quality of script created by two of our own.

"They all, like me, want to ensure that we do David and Daniel's hard work justice."
