This Sunday there is a Jungle Jive Family Funday at Watermans featuring a performances of Giraffes Can’t Dance by Blunderbus Theatre Company.

The show, an adaptation of the popular children’s book by poet Giles Andreae and illustrator Guy Parker Rees, was first performed at the Brentford arts centre in 2007 and has just finished a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Jeanette Longworth, one of the stars of Giraffes Can’t Dancev, says the company can’t wait to get back to the Watermans and showcase their improved version of the play.

“As with all our shows we change it constantly to keep it updated and to keep us as actors on our toes and we also update the puppets,” she adds.

“Watermans is really nice venue. We've been going there for a very long time – the space is great to perform in as the audience all seem very close to you.”

Giraffes Can’t Dance, the story of a bandy legged giraffe called Gerald preparing for the Great Jungle Dance, will be on at 2pm and is suitable for ages 3 – 8.

“We really encourage the audience to join in,” says Longworth. “We have had people up and dancing, and we turn people into lions and chimpanzees and the chimapanzees wash the jungle so the audience can end up getting a little wet!

“It’s a great family fun show but it also has a nice message that, without smacking it home, that says it doesn’t matter if you are different.”

The Jungle Jive Funday will also include cartoons screenings in the cinema, face painting and puppet making.
