If you are feeling a bit blue then perhaps this will put a smile back on your face.

A trio of kind-hearted women are on a mission to spread a little joy and have started the Happiness Group in Banstead.

Beverley Worsley, 49, Serena Kennedy, 48, and Paula Robbins, 45, are inviting everyone who wants to find a way to be happier to monthly meetings restarting in September.

Beverly, from Epsom, says their very first members last year were a bit apprehensive.

She says: "You could see they were going ‘ok, have they lost it?’ 'Is it a strange religious thing?"

But a year of monthly meetings later, the women have decided to keep the group going due to popular demand.

Beverly says: "We realised we adding something to some lives. It’s just been amazing. We have had such a great time."

Each month the group covers a different topic, such as giving, exercising and trying new things, and participants try to incorporate the ideas into their lives.

For example they have had a ‘yes day’, which involved saying yes to every opportunity or request without letting people in on the secret.

They have also written letters to people who inspired them and whom they had never thanked properly.

Beverly says: "I personally think the answer to happiness is giving, not in a happy-clappy way, but by not putting yourself in the centre. When I started looking out instead of in there was a big change for me."

She suggests thinking more about others and taking the time to do seemingly trivial things like making conversation.

The group founders were inspired by a book called The Happiness Project and are active members of Action for Happiness, a movement for positive change.

An Introduction to the group an informal workshop will be held in Banstead on Monday September 16 between 7pm and 10pm.

Regular meetings will be on the last Monday of the month from September 30.

The introductory workshop normally costs £20 but there is a £5 discount for people who quote VIBE after reading this article.
