Steak lovers of Bromley can rejoice after a new eatery specialising in the killer cuts has opened its doors.

Chain Miller and Carter opened its 36th restaurant on Friday (February 27) in Pickhurst Lane, Bromley.

Taking over the site where pub The Pickhurst formerly lived, the steak house can fit 182 hungry diners, with a further 58 at the bar and 90 al fresco - perhaps one left for summer.

Refurbishing the vast interior for six weeks, they retained 11 staff members as part of the 54 new roles created.

Now, to the juicy bit.

Cuts including the ribeye, fillet, sirloin, rump, t-bone, ribs, fillet wellington and the famed Chateaubriand grace the menu, with prices starting from £13.95 to £44.95.

But fear not, every steak has accompaniments included in the price, including a rather unusual choice.

Along with chips, a steak sauce, beef tomato, parsley butter and a delicious onion loaf made in-house, a wedge of iceberg lettuce is served before the main event.

We had not heard of this either, but with a choice of dressings from blue cheese to bacon, the idea behind it is to serve around 15 minutes before the steak to cleanse the palette with something fresh.

This reporter was lucky enough to taste the full steak selection on offer after trying my hand at making my own in the kitchen.

My diamonds turned out more like squares, but Christian Stevenson, the kitchen skills trainer, imparted his top tips for the best steak:

1. Cut. If you want steak, get it right. Marbling, the cut and where you get it from are all factors. If you get a bog standard steak, well, you’re going to have a bog standard steak

2. Preparation. Coat the steak lightly in rapeseed oil to help bring out the flavour.

3. Timing. We know you are hungry, but a good steak takes time. Let it rest for 30 minutes prior to cooking, and again after it’s done.

4. Seasoning. No one likes a plain steak, sprinkle some salt and cracked black pepper while cooking. Do not over season though, keep it in proportion.

5. Sides. Make sure you have something that will compliment your steak. The devil is in the detail.

For the less carnivorous out there – and before you ask one among us was indeed a vegetarian - there is more than enough to cater for their palette.

Luke Brooks, regional manager, summed up the restaurant in three words: “Love of steak.”

A fixed price daytime gets diners one course for £7.95, and two for £10.95.

Younger guests are not forgotten with a kids menu also available.
