Two members of Downham Health & Leisure Centre presented Great Ormond Street with a cheque for £1100 following a two-and-a-half hour marathon workout session hosted by the leisure centre.

The fundraiser at Downham was the brainchild of Bromley-based member Edwin Lampert. When his father passed away last year he set up a charitable trust - The Brun Bear Foundation - in order to support causes that mattered to his late Dad. It raises money through events, sales of a children's book and charity challenges.

"The OSCAR campaign absolutely meets the bill," says Edwin. "The campaign raises significant funds towards areas of urgent need at Great Ormond Street Hospital and its research partner, the UCL Institute of Child Health. The campaign takes its name from a young man called Oscar who benefited from the pioneering work that takes place at the Hospital.

Edwin was joined by fellow Downham member Vanessa Peterkin as well as Gail Hunt and Charlie Martinez from Metro Bank. Gail set up The Brun Bear Foundation's account at the Bromley Branch. "We are delighted to be associated with this charity. It is doing a valuable service through its events and children's books in raising funds and bringing the local community together."

Following the presentation of the cheque there was a tour of the hospital.
