I am writing to make you aware of my opposition to the plan to introduce 20mph speed limits on some roads in Croydon.

This is far too slow. If you drive through East Dulwich, part of Southwark borough, you will find convoys of cars tailgating each other.

This is a direct result of that council bringing this scheme in.

This also is the case in Islington where the traffic is immense as well as the pollution.

It has not led to a decrease in accidents, but more.

A cyclist was killed in a 20mph zone in Denmark Hill.

I have personally seen road rage because of drivers who go at or below 20mph.

Cars now aggressively overtake others.

The council is wasting money on this where it could be used to improve streets and beautify the borough’s deprived areas.

Most of the claims of 20mph only apply to four or more wheeled vehicles – motorbikes and scooters can still avoid jams caused by slow-moving traffic.
