It beggars belief that both Epsom and St Helier Hospitals should be recommended for downgrade.

In emergency situations patient transfer to Croydon or Kingston is unquestionably going to impact on patient well-being and survival rates.

Like many of your readers I have every reason to be grateful for the first-rate maternity care provided at Epsom Hospital.

My daughter, Mia, was born in Epsom Hospital on January 22 and was struggling to breathe.

The on-call team of surgeons and consultants worked for over three hours to keep her alive and stabilise her.

They couldn’t have worked harder for Mia, and thankfully she is now a bright, bubbly and healthy 16 week old baby.

I doubt, without the immediate care provided by the team at Epsom Hospital, I would be able to say that.

Epsom Hospital cannot nor should not lose its maternity or A&E provision.
