The government have cut the value of over 3100 vocational qualifications.
This change rose from the increase in vocational qualifications which was influenced by schools to boost their league tables. For example, horse care can be worth as much as 4 GCSEs. It was claimed by Michael Gove that this change will reduce students getting qualifications which are the most part unhelpful in their future, especially higher education.
These changes will be enforced in 2014 and will see qualifications such as a level 2 BTec in fish husbandry and level 2 in nail technology services as they are currently worth 2 GCSEs.
Will this give future generations more of an equal chance at success? Only time can tell..
