Acclaimed screenwriter Abi Morgan has teamed up with the theatre company Frantic Assembly for the second time in the production of Lovesong. The screenwriter, who is behind the widely anticipated second season of The Hour- a 1950’s drama about the inner workings of a BBC news show- and Theatre biopic The Iron Lady, now gives us a tale of two couples with a haunting past. Due to excessive demand the running of the show at the Lyric Theatre, in Hammersmith, has been extended until the 4th of February.

The production includes the esteemed actress Sian Phillips, whose stage work is beyond compare and screen work includes her BAFTA-winning role as Livia in in I, Claudius, as well as the British movie which has had Oscar buzz written all over it from the word go: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Having collaborated on the highly praised Tiny Dynamite, with the aid of Abi Morgan’s faultless hand and Frantic Assembly’s theatrically innovative vision, this is sure to be a well thought-out and executed show.

Frantic Assembly returns to the Lyric having previously presented its radical reworking of Shakespeare’s Othello. The Lyric Theatre will begin the show on the 11th of January and with plans of a new build, this is an exciting time for the residence of Hammersmith and Fulham area. Unbeknown to most, this unassuming Theatre puts on over 10 productions a year exploring a range of topics and issues. With Christmas round the corner, the Lyric offers the public a chance to enjoy all types of performance and drama. From the Aladdin pantomime that is on for children, to Othello, a classic tale of jealousy, and even further into the lives of two married couples charting the loss of their youth in Lovesong.
