This Halloween, it seemed people had really got the hang of the trick part of ‘trick or treat’. Lots of people are used to getting sweets when knocking from door to door, but this year many people got the fright of their lives when the door was answered by the living dead, or when they were forced to do 10 press ups before receiving any type of chocolate, or when they were made to dip their hands into bowls full of a suspicious liquid, in order to receive the sweets at the bottom. But what is Halloween? A chance for some harmless fun, or is there something more behind it? Most people see Halloween as an excuse to get free sweets, but is it right for children to be let out in the dark, sometimes alone with friends? Some may say that Halloween is the day when a paedophile will get exactly what he wants on his doorstep, and this can be true. Of course, every child has the right to experience the excitement when going trick-or-treating for the first time, but maybe children should stick to trick-or-treating at houses they know. After all, who knows who may be behind the next door they knock at?
