As a major bookworm I saw this lockdown as a great opportunity to get stuck into some new books. I find reading very therapeutic and a great way to support my mental health whilst also learning and developing a dexterity in both reading and writing. I would strongly recommend anyone and everyone to get into reading, it is such a fun pastime and can help develop your skills and your own personality further than you could ever imagine. In this article I will be listing some books I read, rating them out of 10 and then explaining the rating. I will also quote the blurb for each book or the first book of a series in case anyone is interested in reading them.

  • THE MAZE RUNNER SERIES:

5 books: The maze runner, The Scorch trials, The death cure, The kill order, The fever code

Rating: 6/10

Reason: I absolutely loved the first three books in this series. This series is set in a dystopian world but there are eerie similarities between their world and ours. Although I also enjoyed the last two books I felt that we had lost a sense of the original intent of the series.

Blurb: “When the lift cracks open the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he’s not alone – an army of boys welcomes him t o the Glade, an encampment at the centre of the terrible maze. The Gladers have no idea why they’rethere, or what’s happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything to find out.”

  • THE INFERNAL DEVICES:

3 books: Clockwork angel, Clockwork prince, Clockwork princess

Rating: 10/10

Reason: I have adored every single book in this trilogy. They make for an exciting, fantasy, adventure that you feel you have journeyed on with the lovable chaotic characters. It is set in the 1800’s which only adds to the mystery of it. A slightly violent, mildly romantic fantasy novel which I could not recommend enough.

Blurb: “When Tessa Grey arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of demon hunters. Drawn ever deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by – and torn between – two best friends.”

  • A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER:

1 book: A good girls guide to murder

Rating: 9/10

Reason: This was a fantastic read full of plenty of plot twists. This follows a modern group of teenagers stuck in a murder mystery, but the case closed five years ago. This is such an upbeat thrilling read and I would very highly recommend it.

Blurb: “THE CASE IS CLOSED. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone knows he did it. But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the murder, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final-year project she starts to uncover secrets someone in town wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?”
