6 parks and open spaces in Merton have been given prestigious Green Flag Awards, marking their excellent quality.

The award is an international mark of quality based on a park or open space’s environmental standards, how well-maintained it is and its facilities. It is given annually and this year 6 of Merton’s parks and open spaces have won an award! They are spread across the borough, showing its success in providing excellent parks and open spaces for its residents. The winners are:

Abbey Recreation Ground

Colliers Wood Recreation Ground

Dundonald Recreation Ground

John Innes Park

Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields

South Park Gardens

These all vary in size and type of green space but have all been marked as excellent quality. One resident spoke about South Park Gardens and told us ‘It’s a great place to be with nature and to take children.’ The council is very pleased to have been recognised by the Green Flag Awards for its efforts in providing excellent parks and open spaces.
