The Motive, a band based in and around of London, are definitely a music group on the rise. With over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, a bunch of sold-out gigs and of course great music, The Motive are shaping up to be one of the most interesting and talked about bands in town.

By being able to connect with the band over social media, I was given an insight by band members on how they met. Four members of the group, who have been good friends since primary school, said they ‘got asked to pull something together to do a support set for a local Beatles tribute band’. The success and enjoyment of participating in that gig led to the group being set up. When wanting to find a drummer to join the act, I was told Oscar (the guitarist) bought a drum set from an old friend Jamie, then started looking for a drummer. But when there was no success in finding one, after two days Oscar just asked Jamie- finishing the search and completing the line-up of The Motive!

The Motive are sure to have a bright future. The band have already played in many gigs with the highlight being the one they did a couple of months ago in Richmond. At Richmond, they sold out the venue to over 200 people who knew words to their original songs, which is definitely something that encourages on newer artists and is hugely appreciated. With plans to create a website, design and sell some merch and get back into the recording studio for new songs; the group are certainly en route to gaining further success!

The band members- all talented and essential in creating the fun, unique and indie style music, got into creating it in various ways. With the band saying that ‘half of us are self-taught, others classically trained’, they also provide motivation to young artists who want to create music but may not be at a professional level. Furthermore, The Motive also shared some of the tips they had for anyone that wants to get into the music-making industry. Their top one being, ‘be patient and be persistent!’.

The Motive have recently announced that they will be performing at 'The Basement Door' (Teddington) on Saturday, March 2nd. If you are interested in listening to their fresh, distinctive music; be sure to go down for an evening full of the best music, and show support to a local band who are bound to make it big.
